YouTube Tutorial: How To Make A Maxi Skirt

Maxis are all the rage this summer. I adore this popular trend ever so much and recently had a request for a video tutorial on how to make a maxi skirt because of my previous maxi creation a few weeks ago, so here it tisssss finallyyy!

I wore a turquoise and white pattern chiffon top with this light pink maxi skirt. The color combination is superb, if I do say so myself. ;)

I found this silk polyester fabric at Walmart for $1.50 a yard, so I bought 4 yards of it but only used a yard for the maxi skirt. I have many plans for the rest of this gorgeous fabric.

A chic summer look that cannot go wrong-- it is perfectly comfortable and pretty for a daytime get together or a night out.

Lovely Tutorial: White Pleated Tea Party Dress

I have been in the mood to make dresses lately because in my opinion they are so much more fun, yet easy to make. This is a white pleated tea party dress I recently made.

There was a circle skirt tutorial that I stumbled upon while searching the web so I wanted to try for myself. Feel free to follow this link to get Kaysi's tutorial on how to make a circle skirt. I found it to be very helpful.

With a circle skirt I went ahead and attached a top to make a dress! It was that simple. So, let's get started.

The fabric I chose to work with a jersey knit that had cable knit patterns on it like a sweater. The fabric was very easy to work with and I did not even put a zipper on the dress because it stretched easily.


1. To make the circle skirt I traced a pattern on gift wrap paper so I can use to cut out my fabric. Use Kaysi's link I provided to get the correct measurements and to make the pattern.

2. Cut the fabric into the circle skirt. When you open it, it should look like the second photo.

 3. I added pleats because I wanted the dress to look flowy and light. I used pins to keep the pleats in place while I sewed.

4. Of course you can stop with just the skirt and then pair it with a top you already have. I went ahead and made a top to go with it. I went with a tank look, which I made free handed so I apologize for not having a tutorial on it, but I do have photos so I hope it helps. I wanted the back to plunge lower than the front to give it an edgy surprise.

5. Sew the top to the circle skirt bottom together and this is what you get!

I love the look of this dress because it's simple and elegant. I can easily dress it up or wear it plain. I wore a belt and then there's a few photos without the belt.

A perfect summer dress! I am already so in love with it. :)

Darling Alteration: Coral High Low Maxi Skirt

As you can obviously see I am in the 'high low' obsession stage because of my previous post of my white high low tank dress and now... a coral high low maxi skirt! I looove the elegant and whimsical effect and I cannot get enough of it. I found this maxi skirt while shopping that was a size 24W for $4 (I could not say no)-- I knew it would not fit but of course an alteration was in store for this beautiful coral maxi skirt.

Here is the picture of the cutting process to make the high low effect I promised I would take a photo of from my previous high low post. The seam you see is the side of the skirt. I am such a little shortie (5'1") that I started my cut very high in the front of the skirt making the length high above the knees to elongate my legs. Remember to cut a little at a time until it fits you well or when you finally achieve the appropriate length.

So very simple and once the skirt is cut you can start sewing up the edges. Since it was a size 24w I had to also alter the waist. Instead of cutting away at the fabric to make the skirt smaller, I used an elastic band and inserted it inside the fabric of the waist to add more ripples in the skirt giving it a more playful flow.

The impeccable results:

I paired this pretty coral high low maxi skirt with a cream lace top and a brown skinny belt. I am also wearing bronze and forest green gem drop chandelier earrings but you cannot see it clearly in the photo because my hair is covering it up. Oops.

A fabulous outfit to go shopping in or on a romantic evening out. ♥
